The President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa today joined thousands of Zion Christian Church (ZCC) members at Mbungo Estates in Masvingo where they are gathered for their annual Easter commemorations.
Every year thousands of the ZCC members gather at Mbungo as they observe the Easter holiday reflecting on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This year the President Cde Mnangagwa joined the congregants and his message centred on the importance of love, unity and peace among Zimbabweans as they work on rebuilding the nation.
Cde Mnangagwa who was accompanied by Vice President Retired General Dr Constantino Chiwenga said it pleases God to see a united people and in such an atmosphere development thrives.
“Zimbabwe is a God fearing country and as leaders we should also be God fearing. As leaders we should also be God fearing. Let’s all unite and build Zimbabwe,” he said.
President Mnangagwa said churches are an integral part of society as they promote good morals.
The President also touched on the command agriculture programme highlighting that it was a success and it will ensure food security for the country’s citizens.
In July Zimbabweans will be going to the polls and Cde Mnangagwa emphasized the need for peace.
He also urged those who have not yet registered to vote to do so.
“The Bible says we support the leaders who are there let’s show our support by going to vote. Get time to register. We want peace ahead of the elections. We gain nothing from violence,” said Cde Mnangagwa.
The leader of the Zion Christian Church, Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi said as a church it is important to pray together with the country’s leaders.
He said great leaders chronicled in the Bible were worshippers hence it is important for the current leadership to pray.
“We do not want to just pray for the leaders, we want to pray with you, hence we appreciate that you came today. Leaders come from God and we will continue praying for you,” said Bishop Mutendi.
Over 50 000 congregants are gathered for the Easter Conference.
