President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sent a message of condolences following the death of two security officers in a bomb explosion that occurred at White City stadium in Bulawayo on Saturday at a Zanu PF rally.

In a statement, President Mnangagwa said he learnt with a heavy heart the death of the two security officers who succumbed to injuries they sustained in the terror attack.

“This cowardly terrorist attack at a public political meeting was indiscriminate and calculated to achieve a bloodbath which is hard to fathom. Above all, it sought to subvert the will of the people of Zimbabwe by attempting to destabilise the ongoing electoral programme which our entire nation wishes to see unfold in an environment of perfect peace, all for a free, fair and credible electoral outcome which we have pledged to ourselves and to the rest of the world,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President said government will assist families of the deceased by meeting all funeral and burial expenses, urging the nation to stand by the bereaved families.

“These merchants of terror must not be allowed to succeed or to stop the march of democracy, economic recovery and national progress which our people deserve,” Cde Mnangagwa said.

The President also wished a speedy recovery to all those caught up in the terror attack.

He said the best tribute the nation can give to the departed is to emphatically denounce violence and terrorism and show commitment to peaceful, free and fair elections slated for the 30th of July.

President Mnangagwa said the government is already taking comprehensive steps and measures to ensure that peace endures in the whole nation.
