A public private partnership (PPP) arrangement for livestock farmers in Buhera district has unlocked the potential of cattle farming in the area.

Synergies between the private sector and livestock farmers in Buhera district has equipped the local players with the necessary support around management and breeding a development that has transformed the viability of their industry into a commercial entity.

Through sustained cattle fattening practices farmers are realizing better revenues and are now setting their sights on expanding the current herd of 100 cows to over 300 within the next five years.

The example being set out by this PPP highlights efforts that government, working with the UNDP, Oxfam and other non-governmental organisations is targeting to close the rural empowerment gaps said project manager Dr Leonard  Unganai.

PPPs have become an important vehicle to support  local projects on a cost effective and sustainable basis.
