The 2011 edition of the Police Commissioner General’s annual Sports Gala began this Saturday morning at Morris Depot with 16 provincial teams competing for honours.

Some 16 provinces are participating at the annual games and competing in various sporting disciplines including football, netball, tennis, and volleyball.

Officially opening the games in Harare, Police Deputy Commissioner General, Cde Levi Sibanda urged the participants  to not only exhibit but sharpen their sporting skills adding that discipline and fair play should prevail at all times.

“This is a chance for all the athletes to measure themselves against the opposition that they are going to face here. We hope that the spirit of unity and fairplay is going to prevail as all participants here seek to sharpen their sporting skills,” Cde Sibanda said.

The games are an opportunity for the officers to engage and share various strategies while competing in various sporting disciplines.

The Gala is also an opportunity to select a police team that will compete at the Southern African Region Police Games (SARPCCO) games in different sporting disciplines.
