accident2.jpgCommuter omnibus drivers say some accidents that occur on the country’s roads are fuelled by corrupt police officers who receive bribes and in return allow defective vehicles to use the roads.


In acknowledging that some police officers receive bribes, Police Spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri said as the force seeks to curb road carnage corrupt police officers will be fired.


Recently the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces President Robert Mugabe expressed concern over the behavior of some drivers who are reckless and urged law enforcement agents and other relevant authorities to take stern measures against road traffic offenders.


The country has witnessed a number of road accidents which claimed over 100 lives between the period 29 March to the 6th of this month.


Most of the accidents have been attributed to human error.
