Police have released some of the names of the people who perished in an accident that occurred when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in rod an isle and collided with a lorry at a fly-over entering the capitalâ€™s city centre.
On Tuesday a fatal accident occurred killing 7 people on the spot and 2 on admission at hospital while injuring 31.
Of the 9 deceased, police have managed to identify 6 who are Gamuchirai Mutimbairi (24), Francesca Mutimbairi (13), Phillip Mutimbairi (50), Tinashe Mudzingu (12), who belong to the same family, Edmand Buroondo (age not known) and Sinikiwe Mukono (34). The other two are yet to be identified.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka said by 12 noon on the 23rd of December, 28 people had been killed in road accidents and half of them occurred in Harare injuring 469 people.
He urged road users to exercise caution on the roads to avoid loss of lives.
Chief Superintendent Mandipaka attributed most of the road accidents to human error as a result of driving under the influence of alcohol and other substances.
Meanwhile, 5 people were injured around 3am today when a commuter omnibus from Bulawayo overturned 38 kilometres along the Harare-Bulawayo highway.
