Mr Tsvangirai said this when he addressed party supporters at Chibuku Stadium in Chitungwiza.

In an act of public admission that his party has corrupt officials   MDC-T leader Mr. Morgan Tsvangirai who is also the Prime Minister lambasted Chitungwiza councilors who were recently fired from the party for engaging in corrupt activities Mr. Tsvangirai said corruption has become a deep-rooted cancer in the party structures.

“Of late MDC-T run councils have been rocked by allegations of corruption that have seen the party dismissing some of its councilors and threatening others with disciplinary action,” said the Prime Minister.

Last month reports quoted an MDC-T party official saying they were investigating Chitungwiza, Redcliff, Chegutu, Masvingo, Kadoma and Bindura town councils among others, for alleged corrupt activities.

Among officials who have been caught on the wrong side of the law are former Chitungwiza Mayor Mr. Israel Marange who was fired by the party for taking bribes and illegally disposing of residential and commercial stands. Marange was later sentenced to three years in prison.

Other councilors who have been accused of graft are Tineyi Kanyama and Godfrey Mangoma of Chitungwiza. Mangoma was recently jailed for fraud though he is appealing against both conviction and sentence.

In Masvingo the MDC-T’s provincial executive dismissed Mayor Femius Chakabuda from the party accusing him of corruption and insubordination while Mutare’s Deputy Mayor Admire Mukorera, was suspended for allegedly stealing meat at a function.
