playing warriors-kudzai sevenzo.jpgA new feature film, ‘Playing Warriors’, written and directed by National Arts Merit Award Winner, Rumbi Katedza, will hit the big screen next week.

 

The film focuses on the lives of four friends and how they struggle to find a balance between the traditional expectations of their parents and society.

‘Playing Warriors’ is a comedy with a social conscience.

 

The film focuses on modern young women in the city and how they struggle to find a balance between the traditional and modern society.

The film is set against the backdrop of a professional career of a woman, Nyarai, acted by musician and ZBC’s SFM radio announcer, Kudzai Sevenzo and her championship basketball playing sister, Mati played by Nothando Nobengula.

 

Shot on location in and around Harare, ‘Playing Warriors’ stars others who include Prudence Katomeni –Mbofana and Tendai Musoni.

The film is a co-production between Mai Jai Films and Pangolin Films.  ‘Playing Warriors’ was produced with financial support from the Goteborg Film Festival Fund and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Fonds Images Afrique as well as with local support from the Culture Fund of Zimbabwe Trust and the Zimbabwe International Film Festival Trust.

The production has a wealth of local talent in charge of cinematography, camera and lighting. The soundtrack features music from a number of local artists.
