A local platinum miner, Zimplats has donated goods worth US$60 000 for flood victims across the country amid expectations for the launch of the national appeal by government to development partners.
The donation of various food stuffs comes at a time when thousands of families have been affected by floods which hit most southern parts of the country and the goods are expected to play a critical role in cushioning flood victims.
Zimplats Corporate Affairs Director Ms Busi Chindove said the gesture by her organisation is part of the corporate social responsibility to ensure that the affected citizens have something to fall back on.
The Minister of Mines and Mining Development Cde Walter Chidhakwa said it is important for local firms to assist before government approaches the international community while the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing Cde Saviour Kasukuwere appreciated the gesture, urging other firms to come on board.
Zimbabwe was hit by floods in the southern parts of the country which left tracks of destruction.
Most bridges were swept away leaving most roads impassable while most families were rendered homeless.
