Fresh produce farmers have been urged to use certified seeds in order to maximise production in the lucrative market gardening sector.

Hundreds of farmers converged at Stapleford, Harare for the Prime Seedco field day which showcased latest fruit and vegetable seed varieties on the market.

Prime Seedco Regional Sales Agronomist, Faith Dube said fresh produce growers should use hybrid seeds to increase their yield and revenue earnings.

Farmers, who have adopted market gardening as their main line of business, said good farm management and high quality produce  are key in capturing markets.

Market gardening is a major source of income for several urban and peri-urban farmers owing to high demand for produce in nearby markets.
