The Presidential Guard Brigade are this year’s winners for the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) March and Shoot competitions held in Nyanga yesterday.

The Presidential Guard pocketed more than $3000 after beating other 11 platoons drawn from all other formations of the ZNA.

Commando Regiment came second and Three Brigade third.

ZNA Commander, Lieutenant General Edzayi Chimonyo, who was the guest of honour, called on the solders to prioritise training, adding that successful armies are those that train during peace so as to prepare for war as and when called upon to do so.

He congratulated the winners and urged the losing platoons to do well next year.

“Remain optimistic and prioritise your goals in preparations for the next shoot competition since you now know the areas that need to be improved in future. Hard work and keen interest by all commanders at all levels in all needy areas exposed by this year`s completion are a sure recipe for continued success in your endeavours,” he said.

The competition, which saw participants covering 88 kilometres within 24 hours, is meant to test the level of training within the national army.

It involved kit inspection, civic military relations, endurance, map reading, river crossing and range work.

The contestants were also involved in individual battle shoot, close quarter battle and platoon battle drills.
