Members of the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development and that of Information Communication Technology (ICT), Postal and Courier Services have toured the Zimbabwe Centre for High Performance Computing (Zim-CHPC) with the main aim of familiarising with the institution.
It is anticipated that the centre, which is housed at the University of Zimbabwe, will help Zimbabwe in establishing early warning systems especially in areas of drought and floods, among other issues.
Dr Peter Mataruse, who is the Parliamentary Committee Chairperson for Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, said the visit is a learning platform of how the institution works.
Advocate Nelson Chamisa, representing the Parliamentary Committee of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, hailed the visit and added that the centre should be supported at all cost.
The world over, the use of ICTs has become more prevalent and Zimbabwe is making huge strides to put the necessary infrastructure that is critical for the super information highway.
