The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy has deferred hearing the contentious takeover of diamond mining firms operations in Marange by government to the 9th of April after some key persons among them former government ministers, former permanent secretaries, and former commissioner general of police Augustine Chihuri failed to avail themselves.

Chihuri who was summoned to appear before Parliament was in no show and it remains to be seen whether the parly has become a talk show or will bear its teeth as it discharges its duties of oversight.

Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy chairperson Themba Mliswa said; “What has been mentioned by Commissioner General Godwin Matanga is critical and can only proceed if all key people involved with the relevant knowledge on what transpired attend. As such even the former president we are going to summon”.

Among those in attendance was former minister of home affairs Dr Ignatious Chombo who requested for parly to timeously invite those they wish to quiz while Commissioner General Matanga told Parliament he is in the process of investigating what transpired during the deployment of police officers at the time of the takeover process.
