poaching.jpgThe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority of Zimbabwe says poachers are the ones wrecking havoc in the country, dismissing claims from some quarters that political leaders are among the poaching syndicate as mere pub talk.

Briefing local, British and German media in the capital, Parks and Wildlife Management Authority of Zimbabwe Director-General, Mr. Vitalis Chadenga said the increase in the  number of poachers is attributed to the international syndicate not local political leaders as claimed in some sections of the media.

Mr. Chadenga said his organisation has declared “war” on poaching, adding that there is need to have an international and regional co-operation to effectively deal with poachers.

National parks control 12,5% of the country’s land with an elephant population of 100 000 while the rhino population stands at 700 animals.
