david chapfika2  08-09-10.jpgBoard chairpersons of state enterprises have described the recently held corporate governance framework seminar as an eye opener and called on senior government officials to attend such meetings to avoid discord in the running of parastatals.

National Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Board (NIIEB) Chairman, Cde David Chapfika and Mr Phillip Bvumbe of the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) said the workshop has provided a platform to enhance efficiency in parastatals’ operations.

Zimbabwe Investment Authority (ZIA) Chairperson, Mrs Marah Hativagone of) said bureaucratic formalities are making parastatals lag behind as decisions take time to be approved.

Most of the country’s parastatals are facing viability challenges and are saddled with large debts. 

They have been described as the missing link in the country’s push for economic recovery.

State enterprises were hit hard by the illegal sanctions regime with many of them specifically slapped with sanctions prohibiting trade with the western nations.
