pannar.jpgPANNAR Seed Company held its 13th Best Agriculture Extension worker of the year prize giving ceremony at its offices in Ruwa this Friday.
At a ceremony that had plenty of entertainment stakeholders where given the opportunity to experience the company’s products and meet face to face with a group behind the companies jingles that have rocked the airwaves.

The PANNAR choir belted numerous tunes much to the amusement of delegates.

After sending assessors around the country PANNAR realised the need to empower the extension officers who have changed the game in the district under their jurisdiction.

PANNAR Managing Director, Mr. Themba Nkatazo said his company saw it fit to reward and motivate the people who have direct contact with farmers to encourage them to execute their duties diligently and improve the country’s agriculture sector.

The Deputy Minister of Agriculture Mechanisation and Irrigation Development, Mr. Seiso Moyo applauded PANNAR for the initiative, saying it will help in boosting the country’s per hectare output.

For Zimbabwe Farmers Union President, Mr. Silas Hungwe, PANNAR’s initiative has come just at an opportune time.

The competition saw individual extension officers who scooped positions between four and eight walking away with a motorbike, US$500 cash, 20kgs of seed, chat boards among other accesories.

The third best extension officer, Mr. Andrick Jongwe from Mashonaland East scooped US$800 while Catherine Mutungwaze who came second got US$900.

The first price went to Midlands province where Rumbidzai Rusike won US$1 200.

Supervisors to the extension officer also walked away with US$300 and seed.

The best agricultural extension worker awards started in 1996 and the inaugural competition was won by Matebeleland South.

Since its inception, the competition has been won by seven male officers and six female officers.

And to mark the close of the ceremony the PANNAR Choir once again gave a dose of their sweet melodies.
