Victoria Falls based painter, Lawrence Nyemba’s canvas painting of national hero and legendary musician, Dr Oliver ‘Tuku’ Mtukudzi has received positive reviews from both locals and tourists who have described the unique piece of art as a perfect tribute to a music icon.
Less than a kilometer from the breathtaking Victoria Falls is the vibrant elephant walk shopping and artist village, a place where some of the finest local artists and painters are found.
Among those artists is Lawrence, whose paintings are a testimony of definitive and powerful artistry.
His latest canvas painting of Tuku, developed with so much passion, is one of Lawrence’s treasured piece of art.
The jaw-dropping painting is his own way of paying tribute to the talented musician and arguably the super star of his own generation, Dr Mtukudzi.
“I started working on this painting soon after Tuku’s death and I must say this was just my own way of paying tribute to a man who inspired many in the country and beyond our borders. He was an amazing character and an inspiration to many. As artists, we need to emulate Dr Mtukudzi’s good works and remain humble,” Lawrence said.
Passersby and other tourists who have set their eyes on the painting described the piece of art as outstanding and a perfect tribute to the legendary musician.
“We always know Lawrence as a good painter and this is certainly a perfect way for him to pay tribute to the late national hero,” one passerby.
Tuku died at the age of 66 after a long battle with diabetes.
The award-winning musician’s death brought to an end a well decorated career spanning more than 40 years.
