A pageant meant to promote awareness on cervical and breast cancer roared to life in Chinhoyi at the weekend.
Organised by Blackman Entertainment, young girls Ruvimbo Chipango and Panashe Timire came up with the idea of educating the girl child on sexual reproductive health and preventive measures against breast and cervical cancer.
The event was held under the theme: ‘Mwanasikana Igoridhe’ (A girl child is gold).
Twenty-one year old Sibongile Ntini shrugged off competition from 14 other contestants to clinch the Miss Summer Chinhoyi title while 18 year old Annlia Nyatala was adjudged first princess.
The 2nd Princess title went to Caroline Chikomba with Tanyaradzwa Kaposa clinching the Miss Personality title.
Although the turn out by fans at the show was extremely high, the pageant failed to live up to its billing owing to poor logistical arrangements.
The venue of the pageant was also without services such as food or beverages.
There was also evidence of poor grooming of the contestants as they struggled to move in high heeled shoes on the ramp.
Poor lighting also marred the otherwise highly fancied show.
Miss Summer Chinhoyi Sibongile Ntini said it was her first time on the ramp but is now considering giving modelling some more time.
Chinhoyi is usually a sleepy town and when functions like a pageant are held socialites usually give their full support the same way they did during the Miss Summer Chinhoyi although they were let down by shortcomings on the part of the organisers.
