The first day of camp for the contestants began at Harare’s popular Leisure Centre near Domboshawa, with a saching ceremony to come up with a university beauty with brains, a warm welcome to this year’s edition of the beauty showcase.

Members of the cooperate world and invited guests witnessed the presentation of sachets to the 30 models drawn from the country’s provinces in an event that was graced by reigning Miss Universities Paula Machaya and Zimbabwe’s Miss Universe Lisa Morgan and Mrs. Chibage.

Some of the models who spoke to ZBC News expressed satisfaction with this year’s organisation of the pageant.

Police Commissioner Oliver Chibage, who is patron to the Miss Universities pageant and other sponsors attending the ceremony encouraged the corporate world to support modeling a profession which they say will empower youths.

The 15th of October will see contestants receive their judgment from a panel of adjudicators who will choose the beauty queen for the country’s universities.

The winners will automatically qualify for the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s (ZTA) modeling competitions.
