The Zimbabwe Miners Federation has challenged people living with disabilities to strive for the ownerships mining claims instead of waiting to be employed in the sector.

Zimbabwe Miners Federation Chairperson, Mr Makumba Nyenje said their federation has a post in the executive specifically for people with disabilities but there is no one occupying it as people living with disabilities don’t own claims.

“As ZMF, we are worried by the absence of disabled people. We cater for every section of society. Of more than 400 registered miners from the Mberengwa Association, there is no person living with disabilities owning a claim,” he said.

A female miner, Mrs Grace Magama said as women in mining, they are seized with lack of mining equipment like pumps.

Theft of equipment is another challenge for Dohwe 97 Mine, according to Mr Douglas Nkomazana who owns lease shares from the mine.

Miners have received mining equipment from Fidelity Printers and Refiners in the form of compressors, pumps and generators.
