Monde community in Hwange west is up in arms with the Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) following water disconnections which have resulted in the affected villagers drinking from unsafe sources.
The Monde community, a few kilometres from Victoria Falls town, is accusing ZINWA of cutting off water supplies without an explanation.
The affected villagers say they are now living in fear of water-borne diseases as they are getting water from unsafe sources.
“It has been two months now since the authority took a decision to disconnect water supplies to this community. We are seeking interventions from government towards restoration of water supplies so that we stop travelling long distances to water holes,” said one resident.
“There is no explanation from ZINWA as to the reasons for the disconnections. Our right to clean water is being violated here,” said another.
The water situation has also affected the operations of the Monde horticultural project, an initiative meant to improve the livelihoods of orphans and people living with HIV and AIDS from the community.
