Premiership soccer side Ngezi Platinum Stars has selected 20 school children from Chegutu, Ngezi and Sanyati districts for a soccer talent development programme.

The 20 players were selected following a sterling performance during a schools interdistrict select soccer tournament held at Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro Ngezi.

The tournament featured six select schools and was sponsored by Zimplats.

The 20 identified players will feature as curtain raisers in all Ngezi Platinum matches and will indirectly benefit through training opportunities.

Six other players were selected to be part of the premiership side’s under 19 team.

Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Tonderai Ndiraya spoke of the benefits of sport and emphasized discipline as the hall mark of a good athlete.

The Minister of Sport and Recreation Makhosini Hlongwane said in a speech read on his behalf that the tournament is in sync with the ministry’s community club system which aims to promote sport development at grassroots level.

The schools select soccer competition saw Takunda Benhura being adjudged the player of the tournament.

Takunda revealed his soccer dreams and aspirations.

Zimplats hopes to promote the development of other sporting disciplines using the available facilities within the area of its purview.
