politburo meeting 16.05.12.pngAnalysts have hailed the approach by Zanu PF in the constitution-making process where they have studied the document thoroughly and suggested amendments to certain clauses in the draft constitution.

Speaking after a Politburo meeting that debated the draft constitution, the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe said the revolutionary party is an enlightened organisation which will not accept the constitution without scrutinising it.

Analysts say this approach is in contrast to that of the MDC-T which has already approved the constitution.

Zanu PF made some amendments to the draft constitution and the changes include the constitutional court, which the Politburo said should be instituted under the Supreme Court and that it should be staffed by the same judges of the Supreme Court.

The Politburo also removed the issue of running mates. Regarding succession, the Politburo said that the successor should be chosen from the party of the former president.

The proposed amendments by the Politburo have also abolished dual citizenship and the establishment of a land commission.
