Jesse Jackson has commended the Head of States and Government and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe for spearheading economic empowerment programmes, saying equitable distribution of resources is fundamental in addressing poverty.

 

The renowned civil rights leader said this during an impromptu meeting with Zimbabwe’s head of delegation to the just-ended 2012 KP Intercessional meeting in Washington DC, Mines and Mining Development Minister, Dr Obert Mpofu.

 

Rev. Jackson spoke highly of President Mugabe stressing that equitable distribution of resources is critical is addressing poverty as well as social inequalities and expressed his support of the land redistribution exercise.

 

Dr Obert Mpofu, who extended an invitation to Rev. Jackson to come to Zimbabwe, said illegal sanctions by US have had a negative impact on the country’s investment drive.

 

Prior to the meeting, Dr Mpofu together with Attorney General Johannes Tomana had an opportunity to visit Rayburn House Office building around Washington’s Capitol Hill where they met Congressman Jesse Jackson Junior.
