chinamasa mumbengegwi.jpgTwo Zanu PF Ministers, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and Cde Patrick Chinamasa are still among the 112 individuals that are still on the EU sanctions list contrary to claims by the bloc local representative that they have been removed from the illegal embargo.

Despite claims by the European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr. Aldo Dell’ Ariccia last Friday that Foreign Affairs Minister, Cde Simbarashe Mumbengegwi and Justice and Legal Affairs Minister, Cde Patrick Chinamasa had been delisted from the sanctions list, the two’s names still appear on that list.

Asked to clarify on the issue, Ambassador Dell’ Ariccia said the two’s visa ban has been suspended while they remain on the list of “restrictive measures.”

Political analysts say nothing has changed regarding the status of the two Ministers who in the past were given visas specifically to attend re-engagement meetings.

They say that the purported delisting is a non-event as nothing has changed.

Last week, the EU announced the extension of the sanctions against Zimbabwe and scrapped 51 individuals and 20 companies from the initial list.

112 individuals, including the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe have been retained on the list with political analysts describing the partial lift as a non-event.

They say the partial lift is a political gimmick and a smoke screen creating the impression that the EU is serious when in fact they are still bent on destroying Zimbabwe’s economy.
