air zimbabwe.pngGovernment has been urged to formulate a long standing strategy to resolve Air Zimbabwe’s perennial woes following a false start that the national airline experienced when it attempted to resume its domestic flights.

Air Zimbabwe continues to face financial challenges, a development that has forced cabinet to intervene in a bid to resuscitate the national flag carrier.

However, so far nothing has materialised.

Air Zimbabwe was supposed to resume domestic flights on the 20th of February, but has failed to do so after employees failed to turn up for work, claiming they are owed money.

Aviation expert, Mr. Nkhosilathi Sibanda says government as the major shareholder, should not rush decisions on the national airline, but resume flights only if they have mobilised resources that are needed for the flag carrier to be back in the skies.

Air Zimbabwe Acting Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Innocent Mavhunga said there is no definite date when flights are resuming, adding that they are pinning their hopes on government to avail funds as the matter is now before cabinet.

With Air Zimbabwe employees owed salary arrears for seven months, last week, the national airline management had made a commitment to pay employees part of their salaries for them to return to work.

However, this did not happen and it is back to square one for the management, board and the shareholder to find a strategy that will resuscitate the airline.
