 Thousands of people turned up at the Harare International Airport to receive the body of the late Zanu PF Politburo member and prominent politician, Cde Kantibhai Gordanbhai Patel this Tuesday afternoon.
Among the multitudes paying tribute to the late Cde Patel were veteran politicians, Cdes Nathan Shamuyarira and Joseph Macheka.
With song and dance accompanying the arrival of the body from Johannesburg, South Africa, Zanu PF Harare Province Vice Chairman, Cde Christopher Chigumba said the late Cde Patel served the party with a rare dedication that earned him an iconic status among the young and the old.
To the Patel family, the huge turnout at the airport revealed another dimension of Cde Patel’s relations with all people across the racial divide.
To many who worked with him in Zanu PF Harare district, Cde Patel is irreplaceable.
The body of the late was taken to a local funeral parlor where it will lie in state.
A service will be held at the Patel residence at Number 31 Anson road where mourners are gathered.
Zanu PF Secretary for Administration, Cde Didymus Mutasa told ZBC News in a telephone interview that a decision on the late Cde Patel’s hero status will be confirmed this Wednesday.
