Visiting Egyptian media consultant Zohair Ammar has implored local sports organisations to exercise good governance and ensure transparency if they are to attract meaningful sponsorships and partnerships with the corporate world.
Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) and Score Zimbabwe hosted a one-day seminar on sports marketing and sponsorships in the capital which was attended by more than 29 ZOC affiliates, sports associations and the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture as well as Sport and Recreation Commission administrators.
In his remarks, Ammar, who has 30 years experience and extensive knowledge, outlined several marketing techniques which the associations could use to attract sponsorships.
He said government had other priorities while grants and budget allocations for sport were insufficient to cater for all the needs of the associations.
Ammar urged sporting organisations and associations to restructure and manage issues relating to image and communication as crucial in negotiating sponsorship deals with potential partners and sponsors.
The seminar comes in the wake of calls by several sporting bodies for sponsorships and corporate support. several companies on the other hand believe that Zimbabwe is the new growth path for business in the 21st century.
Zimbabwe Score Events & Sports Marketing Consulting is a non-governmental organisation that helps to market sports and development through strategic decision-making and project planning expertise.
