Local riders dominated the second leg of FIM Southern Africa Motor Cross championships which took place at the Donnybrook racing course on Sunday.
Despite Botswana’s Ross Brown winning the MX1 main race, local riders dominated the show with Jarden Ashwell and Peterhouse teenager Ashley Thixson giving Brown a good run for his money.
In the 85CC, Tristen Granger and Mudiwa Chigumba kept the crowd spellbound with an impressive show.
The 65CC category which was won by Biggie Chitima junior, Ryan Masimo in 2nd and Tanya Muzinda third projected a promising growth for the sport.
Event host chairman Gary Granger acknowledged there is imminent growth and boasted that the locals will certainly claim the honours in the 4 legged regional championships.
“We are in with some serious development and this might look like we are winning because we are on home ground but our promise is we will still go on to claim top positions in the third and final leg,” he said.
The FIM Southern Africa Motor Cross championship will descend on South Africa this July for the third leg with the final set for Botswana.
Zimbabwe riders will also be using the regional event to prepare for the big summer series slated in for December in Harare.
