warriors of zim.jpgThe Warriors who started their World Cup qualifiers on a poor note before scraping through to the next round of the AFCON Qualifiers will next month turn their attention to the COSAFA Senior Men’s Challenge in Malawi.

The Warriors will now turn to the COSAFA Senior Challenge Trophy with pressure to appease an impatient support base that is hungry for success.

Despite supporters’ hunger, experts say Rahman Gumbo and his technical team should not be pressurised to select senior players as the tournament is purely developmental.

Four times, the Warriors have lifted the COSAFA silverware and more often first team players were opted ahead of youthful players.

That achievement has however not manifested positive feedback on the future of the game as so often some of the players were picked from fringe players who then fail to make the grade where it matters most.

The media is known for its power to influence the level of expectations and the forthcoming COSAFA has been cited as a platform where the media should use to shape the future of the local game.

Noting that the Warriors currently do not have natural defenders and has a weak strike force that depends mainly on the capabilities of the midfield for goals, hopes are COSAFA 2012 should be a forum where Zimbabwe must unearth its future talent.

Others feel COSAFA 2012 must also afford the Warriors a chance to redefine their playing style from their latest adopted kick and run form to a more exciting passing game which has brought results.
