Zimbabwe Cricket Team Coach, Allan Butcher whose team, was white washed by New Zealand in a test match, One Day Internationals and T20 matches says there is no reason for him to resign or make wholesome changes to the squad as it is developing.
After suffering a humiliating white wash in New Zealand, Zimbabwe Team Coach Butcher says there is no need for him to resign.
With questions having been raised over Butcher’s ability to transform Zimbabwe into a competitive outfit, the coach reckons he has executed his mandate resolutely.
“I have done my job to the best of ability but the problem is that you cannot please everyone. I hope to continue with my role as national team coach and play my part in the team’s quest to win,” said Butcher.
With several players underperforming throughout the series, observers have highlighted the need for a complete overhaul of the squad, but coach Butcher, however begs to differ.
Butcher said: “There are no wholesome changes required to the squad. The return of players such as Chris Mpofu and Vusi Sibanda to the national team set up are likely to make us competitive again.”
The Zimbabwe cricket team will return to international action in June when they take on South Africa in a 5 match 20-20 series in preparation for the T20 World Cup later this year.
After that Zimbabwe will then host Bangladesh before welcoming Pakistan towards the end of the year.
Hopefully a positive transformation will have taken place by then which will lead to the national team appeasing cricket followers who yearn to pop champagne bottles in celebration of victories on the grand stage.
