zebra crossing.jpgMotorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution when approaching zebra crossings following revelations that a big number of people who perish in road accidents are pedestrians.

Speaking during the World Pedestrian Day celebrations which were held in the capital, Traffic Safety Council Director of Operations, Research and Marketing, Proctor Utete said pedestrians have been the victims of road accidents due to reckless driving by motorists.

He added that the responsible authorities should chip in to address the plight of pedestrians.

Acting Harare Mayor, Councilor Stewart Mutizwa said pedestrians need to be educated more on road signs as some have no idea as to how to use zebra crossings.

The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe partnered other companies and donated zebra crossing paint to the city council in an effort to repaint and mark new zebra crossing lines in areas that have been labeled as black spots.
