Employees from different companies in the commercial sector have blasted their National Employment Council (NEC) for failing to address their grievances.

Workers from the commercial sector have blasted their NEC for its inability to solve salary disputes between employees and employers saying the body is too friendly to the companies and as a result some cases remain pending for more than two years.

Employees who spoke to ZBC News said they were victimized by employers for demanding to be paid on time, adding that they had lost faith in arbitration procedures and accused the labour bodies of letting them down.

"Our National Employment Councils (NECs) are a disappointment. Despite the fact that we contribute money to them every month, they are virtually doing nothing to protect us."

National Employment Council for the Commercial Sectors Chief Designated Agent, Mr. Noah Chanda said such problems had not been brought to his attention.

Cases of salary disputes between workers and employers had increased as many companies are failing to pay their employees salaries for various reasons.

Last year towards the year end, many companies did not pay their workers salaries in time that saw some of the workers going to Christmas without pay.
