Angola's ruling party the Movement for People’s Liberation of Angola (MPLA) has been declared the winner of last Friday’s national elections with a convincing 75% of the vote.
The country’s electoral commission announced that the revolutionary party was followed by UNITA which garnered 18% of the vote, nearly twice its share from the previous elections.
The results have assured President Jose Eduardo dos Santos' government, which has been in power since 1979, of another five year term in office.
The African Union observers have hailed the election which was the second since the civil war ended a decade ago.
