marternal health.jpgThe Ministry of Health and Child Welfare says all hospitals should work towards improving the care of pregnant women and newly-born babies at all health facilities that provide maternal services.

Speaking on the sidelines of a workshop organised for media practitioners in Harare, the National Nutrition Intervention Manager, Ms Miriam Banda said Zimbabwe is working towards promoting the global effort for improving the role of maternal services to enable mothers to breastfeed babies for the best start in life.

Statistics show that malnutrition kills more than three million children every year worldwide and prevents millions more from achieving their full potential.

Zimbabwe has made great strides in promoting child nutrition and even HIV-positive mothers are being encouraged to exclusively breast feed for six months.
