Residents ignore typhoid warnings |

 Harare residents continue to buy cooked food from open markets and perishables from vendors despite the risk of contracting typhoid that hit parts of the capital a few weeks ago.
Despite warnings by health experts in the Harare City Council for people to refrain from buying cooked and other perishables from open markets, residents in the capital have not taken heed and continue to consume the foodstuffs raising fears that the typhoid outbreak might not be easily contained.
Laboratory tests carried out by the City Health Department, especially at Kuwadzana 4 Shopping Centre revealed that most of the cooked foodstuffs tested positive to the salmonella typhi, the bacteria that causes typhoid.
More than 1 600 people from Dzivarasekwa, Kuwadzana and Warren Park have been affected by typhoid so far.
