The National Blood Services of Zimbabwe has been called upon to visit organisations to enable employees to have a chance to donate blood.
The call comes after some employees feel they need to be nearer to the place where they can donate blood so that the blood bank can sustain demand.
The National Blood Services of Zimbabwe (NBSZ) has been going around schools motivating children to donate blood.
Centres have been put in place for blood donors. However, employees feel NBSZ should go a mile further and visit each and every organisation to enable the blood bank to meet demand.
According to NBSZ Public Affairs Manager, Esther Masunda, 80% of the blood donated is consumed by adults who donate only 12% of the blood.
Ms Masunda however appealed to organisations to come forward and work together with NBSZ in ensuring employees donate blood.
Meanwhile, the National Blood Services of Zimbabwe, in conjunction with the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA) Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) and Friends of the late veteran journalist Freedom Moyo, will on Saturday, 28 January, 2012 hold a blood-drive initiative to encourage people on the importance of donating blood.
The initiative is also intended to raise awareness particularly to the adult population where 80 percent of the blood is consumed. The event will take place at the National Blood Service Zimbabwe offices next to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, Mazowe Street, at 10am.
The National Blood Service Zimbabwe has kindly offered transport to all those who are interested in supporting this worthy cause. The NBSZ bus will leave Harare Town House at 10am.
A similar event has been lined at 10am in Bulawayo the same day at the NBSZ UBH Ground offices.
