patients.jpgFormer Minister of Health, Retired Brigadier-General Felix Muchemwa, says the typhoid outbreak that has hit Harare has exposed the incompetence of the city fathers and has called for the entire council to resign so as to save the lives of people which are now in danger.

With over 750 cases of typhoid having been recorded in the capital since the outbreak of the disease last year, while thousands others are at risk of contracting the disease, criticism of the Harare City Council and Ministry of Health and Child Welfare is becoming intense.

Dr. Muchemwa warned the relevant authorities to stop playing politics with life, saying the only honorable thing to do after such carelessness with human lives is a complete overhaul of the City Council.

Retired Brigadier-General Muchemwa also blamed the Minister of Health and Child Welfare, Dr. Henry Madzorera for being negligent at a time his services are needed most.

Contacted for comment, Dr. Madzorera told ZBC News that he is not aware of the outbreak as the City Department of Health whom he claims to be the responsible authorities on the issue has not yet informed him.

However, analysts say for the Minister to wait for bureaucratic processes while the disease is spreading at an alarming rate is a sign of gross incompetence as the outbreak has been highly publicised by the local media.
