A tourism and hospitality consultant has urged the local tourism sector to invest in business tourism as part of its plans for growth while marketing the country’s leisure tourism.
Business tourism is the provision of facilities and services to the millions of delegates who annually attend meetings, congresses, exhibitions, business events, incentive travel and corporate hospitality.
Tourism and Hospitality Consultant, Mr Glenn Stutchbury said the sector should invest in conferencing and events infrastructure as business tourism is now the major contributor to returns made by the sector the world over.
According to UNWTO figures, business tourism contributed over a trillion US dollars in 2011.
The first half of 2012 recorded 467 million international business tourists and is expected to reach the 1 billion mark by end of year.
