Professional divers who are on a 12-day diving expedition say the geographical spectacle and the clarity of the water at the Chinhoyi Caves Sleeping Pool is mind-blowing, unique and cannot be compared to any other natural phenomenon.
Myth and mystery has it that if you throw a stone into this pool the ancestors will throw it back and you will be cursed for the rest of your life.
Eleven technical divers from South Africa are here to explore this fascinating geological splendour.
They have dived in the deepest seas and have swum in shark infested waters.
They have seen the marvel that comes with aquatic life but in all their experiences, these professional divers who have been all over the world had never come across clear and visible water found at the Chinhoyi Caves Sleeping Pool.
70 metres underwater, the divers could clearly see trees, people and cameras flashing.
'Unbelievable' was the term on their lips as they emerged from an 85-minute dive.
The divers expressed doubt whether they will ever reach the bottom of the sleeping pool which is estimated to be around 172 metres deep.
Nevertheless, they hope to produce a map that will clearly define the structure of the sleeping pool.
The water levels in the sleeping pool maintain the same level even if there are floods anywhere in Zimbabwe.
Strangely, the temperature at any given time is at 22 degrees Celsius.
Meteorologists have failed to explain this phenomenon.
Sadly the sleeping pool which has the potential to become a tourism giant has been poorly marketed.
With proper marketing, combined national effort and international exposure, this sleeping pool can change the face of Zimbabwe tourism.
