The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) has relaunched a partnership with Victoria Falls Steam Train Company (VFSTC) in an effort to introduce a wider variety of activities in the tourism sector, amid concerns that Victoria Falls is lacking in entertainment facilities at night..
The partnership was relaunched after VFSTC found an investor, a development which will see renovations commencing on the luxury train to the tune of half a million dollars as part of the preparations for the 2013 UNWTO scheduled for Victoria Falls.
Speaking soon after a tour of the steam engine luxury train with delegations from the two organisations, VFST Group Operations Director, Mr. Stan Mukorombindo said the coming of NRZ will assist his organisation in preparing for the Africa Tourism Association Conference set for May.
He added that the figure invested will not only be used for investment but also in the acquisition of new coaches.
NRZ’s General Manager, Air Commodore Mike Karakadzai expressed confidence that the partnership will generate significant revenue and contribute significantly to the growth of the tourism sector.
The proposal to come up with a similar partnership, which was to see the introduction of a luxury train operating from the Eastern Highlands to Victoria falls by the African Sun and NRZ four years ago has not yet materialised.
Another tour and adventure operator has also proposed a similar partnership.
