gringo movie.jpgThe full length movie 'Gringo the trouble maker' will premiere on the large screen at Rainbow cinemas this Thursday evening.

The full length Shona film which is 1 hour 50 minutes long is based on the popular television drama series, Gringo which ran on ZBC TV for seven years from the late 1990s.

Script writer and three time NAMA award winner, Enock Chihombori said the main theme centres around the get-rich-quick concept that has gripped most Zimbabweans.

"John gets into trouble after consulting Gringo who purports to be a n’anga. He is taken for a ride by Gringo. The twists and turns are typical of the Gringo drama,” said Chihombori.

The movie features Lazarus Boora 'Gringo', Tapiwa Mavindidze  who once starred in the local soap Studio 263 as 'VJ' and Evangelista Mwatse who starred in the soap Small House Saga as 'Jean'.

Chihombori added that he drew his inspiration from the success of other local films.

“The need to revive and grow the industry is where I got the idea. This should definitely impact the international market,” said Chihombori.

Directed by Ben Mahaka and produced by veteran film producer, Lillian Chidavaenzi in collaboration with the Zimbabwe International Film Festival, ‘Gringo the trouble maker’ was shot beginning of last year.

The film’s cast includes talented actors such as Gringo’s sidekick, Blessing Chimhowa coming in as 'Mbudziyadhura' and William Matenga popularly known as 'Mudhara Gweshegweshe' from the original cast.

"I am here for as long as I am still sane, with good memory and will power. I thank God for giving me extra strength. I still have a bright mind; I still have will. I know our history more than you do. I know the wishes of those heroes and those who lie elsewhere more than you do. I know the wishes of the chiefs, dead and alive." - At 6th Zanu PF National People's Congress, 2014.
