harare-magistrates-court.03.09.10.jpgA Harare Regional Magistrate has sentenced a 26-year old Glen View self-proclaimed prophet to 12 years in jail after finding him guilty of forcing a 13 year- old teenager to sodomise him.

Mathodius Matambo was facing charges of aggravated indecent assault for the unusual sexual incident which occurred on the 25th of April this year and appeared before Regional Magistrate, Mr Adonia Masawi who found him guilty as charged.

State Prosecutor, Mr Michael Reza proved during trial that the accused visited the teenager at his aunt’s house where he had been invited to pray for the ailing aunt.

The court heard that Matambo had misled the aunt into believing that the minor needed to be exorcised of demons at his shrine.

At the shrine, in broad daylight, the accused is said to have removed his trousers, to his knees and forced the teenager to sodomise him.

The teenager then screamed, forcing the accused to stop his illegal conduct and eventually leading to his arrest.

Handing down the sentence, Regional Magistrate Masawi noted that the Matambo had committed a grave offence, but had shown no remorse or regret throughout the trial.

This had forced the court to give him a stiff sentence to send a correct message to the community.

He sentenced the accused to 12 years imprisonment, five of which were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence.
