Five men have appeared in court after being found in possession of more than 14 kilograms of gold.
The five, who include two brothers of Indian origin, Yaya and Rashid Materiya, Dennis Kwendamawira, Timothy Makarimai and Fungai Mashava were arrested at a toll gate outside Harare along the Harare-Masvingo high way by detectives from the CID minerals unit.
It is alleged that the five were intercepted by detectives in the early hours of Sunday on their way to South Africa.
The Materiya brothers are facing another charge of bribery after they offered detectives more than US$93 000.
Harare magistrate, Anita Chuma has however granted US$1 000 bail to each of the five accused persons.
