A serial rapist from Mabvuku has been sentenced to 35 years in prison after being convicted of three counts of rape and five counts of armed robbery.
Tafadzwa Dindi was initially sentenced to 43 years, but 12 years were suspended on condition that he will not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
In her judgement, Regional Magistrate Memory Chigwaza said Dindi behaved like an animal and society has not place for people like him, adding that the accused deserves a lengthy custodial sentence.
During trial, the state represented by Mr. Michael Reza had indicated that the court must not be lenient with Dindi as he exposed people to HIV and other related diseases.
Dindi is alleged to have committed a spate of armed robberies and rape at secluded places around Donnybrook Racecourse in Mabvuku.
He is understood to have attacked unsuspecting lovebirds with a knobkerrie and an iron bar, robbing them before raping the woman.
