Preparations for the 55th edition of the South–Western District Show Society which kicks off this Thursday in Gwanda are at an advanced stage with 80% exhibition space having been taken up.
The President of the Show Society, Mr Misheck Ndlovu said the show has been growing from strength to strength as exhibitors have over the years continued to improve the quality of exhibits.
He said despite poor harvests in the last agricultural season and a suspected foot and mouth outbreak which has since been contained, exhibitors will include crop and livestock farmers drawn from across the province as well as various service providers.
Mr Ndlovu said the society has added three more categories in the commercial sector and created three in livestock farming in a bid to expand competition and to make the fair all-encompassing.
Zimbabwe Farmer’s Union provincial manager, Mr Fidelis Mhlolo encouraged farmers to take advantage of such platforms to seek advice on the best farming practices from stakeholders such as Agritex and seed houses to boost food production.
The show runs from the 2nd to the 4th of this month and will be officially opened by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Professor Welshman Ncube this Saturday.
