tobacco floors sale.jpgThe Farmers Development Trust held a tobacco growers forum to enlighten small-scale Tobacco farmers on the importance of adhering to Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board regulations, in an effort to curb the perennial challenges that farmers face at the auction floors.

The forum was meant to update small-scale tobacco growers on the requirements at the floors to avert the challenges of congestion and other related problems that farmers meet during the marketing period.

Farmers Development Trust Chief Executive Officer Mr.Lovegot Tendengu impressed on the farmers on the need to abide by the marketing regulations to prevent the loss in value of their crop.

Also present at the forum were new players in the tobacco industry who shed light on farmers on the need to be aware of the bailing requirements to retain crop quality and fetch good prices.

The small-scale tobacco growers who participated in the forum hailed the organisers for their timely intervention saying they were now more wiser than last year on handling the tobacco crop.

Tobacco farmers usually experience numerous challenges during the tobacco marketing season, ranging from congestion, delayed payments, unavailability of sanitary facilities and other concerns.

Hopes are high this marketing season will be less chaotic at the auction floors for farmers compared to previous seasons.
