Born in Buhera in 1909, Benjamin Burombo is one of the earliest Zimbabwean nationalist to fight for national liberation.

He is credited for having possessed a quality of leadership which inspired those he met to take a pride in themselves and to try to make positive moves to improve their lot.

He founded the British African National Voice Association, a trade union organization with political overtones, and became its President. Although he had never received any formal education he taught himself the rudiments of law by his own reading.

President Mugabe quotes

'We are letting imperialists dictate terms to us. We are letting down (African Union) founding fathers such as Nyerere. Whites have infiltrated Africa with impunity.' - Feb 2012
