court.jpgIllegal diamond dealer Newman Chiadzwa has been sentenced to five years in prison and fined US$132 764 for contravening Section 3 Subsection 2 of the Precious Stones Trade Act Chapter 21.6 which arose when he was found in possession of diamonds weighing 8.1 kgs.

Mutare Provincial Magistrate Billard Musakwa handed over the sentence and said the 8.1 kgs  of  diamond is being forfeited to the state.


He said the fine should be paid by the 30th of June this year, failure of which the state will apply for warrant of attachment of property to recover the money.


The Defence Council Mr Chris Ndlovu said he will appeal against both sentence and fine at the High Court.
