More than 3 000 women are set to benefit from a free cancer screening facility commissioned at a private hospital in Chitungwiza.
The new cancer screening unit at Citimed Hospital is set to complement government’s efforts in screening women regularly as well treatment for pre-cancer lesions to reduce cervical cancer cases in the community.
Commissioning the unit, some health officials noted with concern the rate at which cervical cancer is affecting the Zimbabwean population which is about 33.2 percent in women.
The Chitungwiza community said the new VIAC unit will go a long way in reducing deaths associated with cervical cancer.
The unit is expected to serve 2 500 women living with HIV in Chitungwiza.
